Can my new employer process my MDEC?

Post new topic

Hi,

I am an expatriate here in Malaysia for almost 4 years now and this is the first time that I am changing  jobs.

My visa will end on this month (Jan 2024) and my starting date on my job will be on end of Feb 2024. My new employer said that I don't need to leave the country so long as I can provide a release letter and tax clearance since my EP will be under same category (II), I already provided my release letter but tax clearance need some time (days) to process. My worry is, from the time period of Feb 1-27 is a very grey area which I don’t have a valid visa.

> what can I do on that time period without a visa?

> should I ask my new employer to process my MDEC as soon as possible? Since I will be staying here in Malaysia and will still be paying taxes through them.

> How long can I stay here after my visa is expire?

Visit Immigration in Putrajaya or Jalan Duta and explain to them your predicament. They should be able to provide you with a temporary visa.

Make sure you bring relevant documentation to prove that your employment pass is in process.
