Category F
Anyone contemplating a Cat F route to residency needs to be aware that NO residency category F application has been examined for years. An acquaintance is currently working at a law office in Paralimni and they recommend that their clients do not submit applications under this category to avoid stress and expense.
Unfortunately there is little or no information as to when and if they will start the processing again This program has been subject to many discussions on its rules and requirements so
maybe things will change but don't hold your breath
@Toon We applied in February 2022. We were told at the time that there "was a backlog in processing" applications. We only found out about 2 months ago that, according to what we were told, all applications were halted altogether in 2019 pending the announcement of new conditions.Â
Oh how's things have changed ...
We did the old cat F self sufficiency residency in 2014 ... In and out with yellow slip in under 25 mins
@Toon I think only the slow track category F application have really slowed down. The applications of people who purchased 300k real estate and make 50k euro per year seems to be processed faster i.e in 2.5 years under new rules.
Though the timeframe for processing applications is around 18 months, currently it spans for 2.5 years.
“The current application of the naturalisation by investment scheme has shown that certain provisions needed a re-evaluation while others needed to be regulated. The changes aim to tackle any weaknesses that may be taken advantage of.â€
Spouses of the investor can be naturalised if they can evidence an annual income of at least €15,000 per year.
Applications will be approved by the interior minister with the process lasting two months, the ministry explained. A €500 fee comes with every application as well as €70 for every dependant. All applicants must have a clear criminal record.
While naturalisation through investment applications are fast-tracked, the government is facing challenges with permanent residency applications that are backlogged due to parliamentary delays.
In May 2022, new regulations prepared by the interior ministry were submitted to House interior committee for discussion – and to eventually be voted into law. Nonetheless, to date the regulations have still not been discussed.
The regulations concern a number of permits for employees, self-employed persons and people living off savings earned abroad, under regulation 5 of the Aliens and Immigration Regulations. Though applicants do not have to live in Cyprus, they must visit Cyprus once every two years.
Reports suggest the existing regulations date back from 1988 and amid the pending green light from parliament, the interior ministry has preferred to shelve existing applications until the new regulations are voted through.
Though the timeframe for processing applications is around 18 months, currently it spans for 2.5 years.
As I've said before Cyprus seems to be seeking high net worth individuals.....
@dvb123 People have been waiting for 5 years with the same response when they text the SMS STATUS of application
Η αίτηση βÏίσκεται Ï€Ïος επεξεÏγασία. ΣÏντομα θα διαβιβαστεί στον αÏμόδιο κλάδο για εξÎταση. (Xxxxx/2019)
The application is under process. It will be soon be forwarded to the relevant section for examination. (Xxxxx/2019)
Have you tried calling into immimgration dept
Called and written get the same reponse as text - they have no information in process
My solicitor has informed me that there are more changes to Cat F besides the increased required income that are coming into effect as at December 2023
Apparently nobody has been informed yet as to what the changes are and they will discuss with me when they know
I will update the thread accordingly when I hear something
Does Cat F include investments in Cypriot start-up businesses or is this a different PR visa?
Cat F is effectively a retirement visa with no permissions for work. its also not an investment visa
My wife and I have applied for Category F in July 2019 through a lawyer, and although the SMS to 1199 replies with a "Your permit is valid." message, both our lawyer and an immigration specialist are telling us no cards are being issued at the moment ...
@The Sandman
Thanks for the update
@The Sandman
Hi. Excuse my ignorance, but once you have applied for the cat F visa, can you stay in Cyprus until your visa is either approved or not approved?, effectively in a state of limbo? Just wondering whether to go down the same route myself before that door is completely closed.
@themarkymark no unfortunately category F permanent residency application does not work the same way as the temporary residency does. When you apply for a category F, and in order to stay on the island while waiting for the permit, you either have to apply for a tourist visa (90/180 days rule) or a temporary residency permit which you need to renew yearly.
I believe you need to apply for pink slip annually until Cat F approved and for at least 5years when you can apply for permanent residency.
Cat F used to be instant in the days of EU membership now it's not worth it ....
@themarkymark
Sadly the financial requirements of pink slip are harsher.... But as you have to do it anyway so might as well take that route in the first instance .... All by design to take as much money as they can whilst increasing the local banks balance sheets to pay their shareholders massive bonuses.
@telf
ours changed last month to
“Your application is under examination by the relevant sectionâ€
We kind of hoped someone had the sense to pick up the application along with our Temp renewal which was lodged in Dec as that status changed last month as well. Cant get anymore info on it unfortunately.
@Toon
our status for a Cat F Permanent Residency lodged in Feb 2023 changed last month to “Your application is under examination by the relevant sectionâ€
No idea if that actually means anything but at least its changed. This was at the same time as our temp renewal which was submitted in Dec status changed. Im praying someone with a bit of common sense has picked up both applications to process at the same time but not holding my breath!
We applied for the F catergory residency through a respected (?) law firm at November 2020, based on a Paphos property we hold. Opened the local bank account (nightmare) as required and submitted all documents.
Literally nothing has happened since. It'is a dead end. Save your time and money.
@MyGogga
There still might be hope. we’ve applied in 2019 and we just received a letter from immigration asking us for a few updated documents so that they start examining our application…
Regarding the pink slip visa
I think I am correct in saying the monthly pension payments of a civil partner can be added to the applicants
However because some wiggle room might be needed if this 2,400Â is raised --- which it probably will at some point
Ah --- another question
What was the previous monthly requirement before 2,400 euros ?  And if your pink slip is a yearly requirement I assume the applicant would have to increase their monthly payment when required to do so.
So some monthly interest paid in from a UK Bank account will probably be needed by myself due to UK taxes taking a slice of my monthly pension lolly.
Can anyone recommend a safe/85K guaranteed UK Institution Bank/Building Society which pay monthly interest to a person that had become a Cyprus tax resident ?
We are looking at renting for the first year of a pink slip , and perhaps for the next year or two also till we are sure we have made the right choice of location
Can anyone recommend some quieter fishing villages that are worth looking at please
cheers
gordon
HSBC certainly pay monthly interest on some of their accounts and they have and still do pay it .. since we left UK in 2008 whilst residents of both Malta 6yrs and now Cyprus 10yrs... They seem to be happy to do so and have said that as long as transactions go in and out of their accounts they have no intention of closing any of their customers accounts. Check it out as we've been customers of theirs at least 20 years and I don't know if it applies to new customers.
Renting initially is a very good choice and one I'd recommend for anyone contemplating a major relocation.
Pink slip is a yearly visa and the requirements must be proved at renewal each year... Others already on pink slip will be able to confirm that for you.
@Gordon76
The current requirement came into force for all TCNs shortly after Brexit occurred so about 2020/2021 especially for brits.(Except irish or those who can prove Irish grandparents and can obtain an Irish passport).. Previously the financial requirements of pink slip were loose and variable in as much as a TCN just had to prove they had sufficient regular funds coming into Cyprus (without working here) to support themselves and family so as not to be a burden on the RoC.
This article from 2020 might be of interest as it gives some context to the history of the pink slip ..which it seems has been modified to cope with migration as now digital nomad remote working has its own visa and different financials and residency limits
Toon
Thanks
Funny you should mention Irish grand parents
I watched Nutters youtube the other day on cyprus where he also talked about getting an Irish passport via his wife , but decided not to wait
I am in the process of trying to find out if I have an Irish great grandparent , due to the surnames I have so far found out for two of my grandparents I believe I have a better than 50/50 chance with one or the other , so I am pursuing this route now as plan A. Â
Pink slip fall-back as plan B
Funnily enough I asked Google AI a question as to whether I could set up a monthly payment from a NZ bank account I opened over 12 years ago when I was thinking of retiring to NZÂ --- it looks like I can do this on a monthly basis so that would sort out my monthly requirements plus rent for the pink slip.
Plus in order to take advantage of the zero tax on interest from UK Banks and Building Societies --- which would be good I need to see which of those allow accounts to remain open if you leave the UK as some seem to have to be closed,
Problem which needs sorting is private healthcare requirement for th pink slip
Can this be provided to someone over the age of 76 and then going on to over 81 in 5 years via a cyprus provider ?
And do the Cyprus authorities give you the names of these plus charges ?
Missed out on NZ because nobody provides healthcare insurance over 75 years of age at the required AA- level of operation. I left it too late.
cheers
Gordon,
Ah
I assume this still stands
Medical insurance
You can get it at the immigration service itself. The main difference between health insurance for the immigration service and the usual health insurance is the presence of a claim for transportation of the body to the home country in case of death. The price of the insurance starts at 175 euros per year.
BUT
Are there age restrictions ?
Isn't Mr Google getting amazing
I asked are there any restrictions on older applicants over 75 years of age applying for a pink slip visa in Cyprus ?

According to available information, there are no specific age restrictions for applying for a "pink slip" visa (temporary residence permit) in Cyprus, meaning individuals over 75 years old can still apply as long as they meet the other eligibility requirements, such as sufficient income from abroad and proof of accommodation.
Key points to remember:
No upper age limit:
The pink slip visa is generally open to individuals of any age, including those over 75.
Eligibility requirements:
To qualify, applicants must demonstrate adequate financial means to support themselves while residing in Cyprus.
Consult a legal professional:
If you have specific concerns regarding your age and applying for a pink slip visa, it's best to consult with a lawyer specializing in Cypriot immigration law.
The cheap immigration Insurance starting at about €120 per yr is limited cover but can be taken upto 80 yrs old.. best to checkout various brokers Pacific Abbeygate Atlantic Top Quotes Status ..
If on uk state pension then each apply for the form S1 to get healthcare cover via GESY Cyprus NHS. .. For low cost healthcare
you may still need the cheap insurance in the interim period between applying for residency and getting the S1 and white medical cards for GESY approved and registered
It is highly recommended to engage an immigration specialist as it helps take the stress anxiety and frustration out of the residency process ..
How you deal with taxation will depend on your personal circumstances and finances .. best to take tax advice
