WE'VE HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT DUMAGUETE FOR MATURE GAY FOLKS?

Post new topic

Hey There!

My husband and I are retiring to the Philippines just after the first of the year.

I've worked extensively in Asia throughout my career. He's making his first trip in when we come in October to check things out. Lots of trust here....

We're Heinz 57 Americans. We're gay and looking to meet other mature gay folks for friendship and fellowship. (*Footnote: We're totally and completely committed to each other and won't be looking for additional playmates, so don't ask.) We just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary.1f498.svg

Of course we're counting on making all kinds of new friends, we'd just like to connect with other like minded folks when we land.

We're looking very strongly at Dumaguete as we're told there are quite a few gay expats there and it also checks off a lot of other boxes for us. Like when our kids come to visit. We're told they won't get bored.

We're really excited about our move and look forward to all kinds of new adventures.

Any and all good advise will be greatly appreciated.1f609.svg

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum.  I live near Dumaguete but have no idea about your specific question, however it is a great small city with lots to do. In my experience, Filipinos are quite accepting of gay people in general and I would hope the expats are too. Everyone deserves to be in the loving relationship of their choice.

I hope it goes well for you, congrats on retirement.

Well thanks for your kind response. I'm glad you said hello.

We're not worried about the expats.

We live in a very small town here in Missouri and most of our friends are straight. Most folks wouldn't assume that we're gay by looking at us. Well until he opens his mouth lol.

But should any of the expats have a problem with us, we kind of figure it's their loss not ours.

We've been told that the Philippinos will be the least of our worries. We hope to form lifelong bonds with our new Philippino friends.

Again, thanks for reaching out.

Welcome D & D, enjoy the forum.

As most here know I have a same sex partner, together for 13 years, live here now for over 5 years and seem to be well accepted by our local community and treated with no difference, no different to when we lived in Australia.

The Philippines is a great place to retire and no regrets here and the better half is close to his family and friends. Enjoy your new adventure.

Cheers, Steve.

Hey Steve,

Thanks for reaching out.

We're so excited about the coming days. Believe it or not, I think he's more excited than I am.

Congrats on your 13 years!

As we're both mutts from the U.S. we won't have any family there, but we're looking forward to making those friends that are family.

Are you close to Dumaguete? Do you know anything about it? What part did you and yours settle in?

Again, thanks so much-

Doug

Hey Doug.

We are up in La Union, Luzon and never visited Dumaguete but I hear good things from many on this site and good if you like an expat environment with plenty to do. We are surrounded by expats here on the beach but don't live in each others pockets though accepted by all even the locals.

Spend some time in and around Duma and see if it fits the bill then decide where to settle, you guys will have fun exploring.

Cheers, Steve.
