Follow-up residence card application after AIMA?

Post new topic

bloggerblogger

Hey guys,

So I attended my AIMA appointment in Lisbon April 2024, submitted all the required documents, did face capture and fingerprinting (biometrics), paid the fees.

Now according to hearsay, it takes about 90 days for the residence card to be ready or for AIMA to deliver it to my address in Portugal.

I am still waiting till today in August 2024.

How can I track or know the status of my application? I have been living in Portugal since December 2023.

Any idea guys if you had similar experience and decided to follow-up with AIMA while expecting your residence card. Any contacts or offices to visit for this kind of issue or any help?

Same plight here. I had done this in Porto.

You can go to the AIMA store Lisbon in your case with the receipt and acknowledgment and enquire with the front office officers about the status of your residence card.

Hope this is helpful.

In this time and age of digitalization, this should be made seamless to track and reach out to the authority but that's just not the case here in Europe.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Were you able to get your card after the follow-up in Porto?

No luck there. I wrote to the AIMA via form - waiting for response yet.

When was your AIMA appointment?

How long have you been waiting for your residence card after the AIMA appointment?

bobinportugal22

Successful AIMA appointment in Faro and took over 9 months to receive my card and only after another visit by a legal representative. Multiple emails that never received a response and every phone call was answered by a recorded message directing me to the website. One can travel outside the country and return with the paper residence permit but there are some actions that require the actual card. Great deal of patience required!

I paid for my new 5 year residence card 3 weeks ago and waiting for it to be delivered, I have no idea how long that process is for manufacture and delivery.

I will be away from my adress for the next 4 weeks..is it likely it won't be here by then anyway.

Can I go and pick it up in person somewhere.

Thanks for feedback.

Join the crowd.  I was able to renew my Residencia on-line, but my wife, whose Residencia expired the same time as mine (that is July 2023) has not been able to do so.  She can't get an appointment and in spite of every effort, there is no contact from AIMA who is now going on strike until the end of the year. 13 months to do a renewal???  So far.

3 months I am told...for getting the card after paying.

Hi Bob

My husband had his appointment at Faro early Sept 2024. Status under analysis.

You mentioned your lawyer had to visit AIMA Faro. Did he make an appointment? Or he just went to the office?

We live in Porto and thinking to go to AIMA Faro to push the matter. But not sure if to go without appointment. Or better send our lawyer. Any sugggestion?

thanks.

When you received your card did you get it in the mail and you had to be present to sign? Or just in the mail?

We are concerned if we miss when the mailman comes.

thanks

@VictoriaLUNA,

When it demands a signature and nobody is at home, the mailman leaves a postcard telling you to go to the Post Office to get your mail/package. It must be the person to whom the letter is addressed who picks it up. Bring an identity document.

Note: don’t go to the Post Office in the same day, as the mail/package will only be available the next day. You’ll have 5 work days days to pick it up.

Hi,

Would you know how long the post office keep the card - Also where does it go after (Ie Sent back to nearest AIMA or AIMA where the appointment was) and for how long does it stay there?

regards

JohnnyPT

As already mentioned, the letter stays at the post office for 5 working days. If it is not picked up during this period, the letter is returned to the sender's address. This happens with all correspondence, not just that from AIMA. It's very likely that the address on the letters is the address of the AIMA central service. And it may have nothing to do with the place where the appointment was made.

Thank you for all the information, very helpful.  I have a question, not sure if it has been answered yet.  I am US citizen moving to Portugal and just received notification that my D7 visa was approved and I now have to send my passports.  A friend has told me that when the passports come back, we will already have a date for immigration appointment in Portugal and we have 4 months to leave.  We will obviously go for the appointment for that date but have to come back as I need to finish the school year at work.  Is it possible to come back to USA for a few months after the appointment date and then return in June, for example, using an estimated date of appointment between March and April.  Any advise would be appreciated.  Thanks

JohnnyPT

Hi @Pamela, Welcome.

I hope someone can give you an answer more accurate about this issue. But I think there's no problem. This is because if you have a residence permit after the interview, you have these periods of time in which you can be out of Portugal. Please see post #21:
