Terah

Do you lose residency if you sell your Malta home?  I have been resident for decades.  Undecided as to whether to rent or buy another properwty.  I don't want to lose my residency.

Unsure as to whether

I should rent

stay with friend

be here over 180 days

Could you pkease clarify.  Thanks.

@Terah

As long as you have a residency card I cannot see why not, you will have to

inform them of change of address and apply for a new card.

yes if you are non EU national and your API permit is related to the property then you will loose your residency status

@Terah   Why not ask Identity Malta?

Hi, I have a question that relates to try the original question. Do long or permanent residents of Malta not qualify for citizenship?

Also if I have questions about buying a property in Malta to get residence status, who do you recommend me to ask? Lawyers, agents or government agencies?

Many thanks in advance

Buying property does not give you residence, you have to comply with the residence terms none of which is to do with owning property or not - unless what you are talking about is the investment based routes for which presumably you'd be talking with a professional and wouldn't ask here.

So I suspect you are asking about normal residency, in that case owning property is irrelevant to your residency status. Would help if you tell us which residency you have - permanent or not.  If permanent you can be out for 5 years (iirc) if normal then 6 months in any one year max.

Thank you for your reply. We have just started to research the possibility of moving to Malta, we haven't asked any professionals yet. Speaking of which, are there any reliable advisors/ lawyers that anyone here has used in the past to relocate to Malta? We would appreciate your recommendation.

I used John Huber and Associates for immigration support and still use them as my tax accountant, been very happy with the service
