Health Restrictions

Post new topic

Hi,

My wife and I plan to retire to Malta (Gozo actually) in about 4 years time. I've been doing some research and found that a requirement is "good health" .. I suffered a heart attack 3 years ago and I'm wondering if that will mean I don't have "good health".

I have dual nationality as a German/UK citizen and my wife is a UK citizen, we plan to retire using our UK state pensions as our income alongside our savings.

Any advise or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Colin & Jan

Welcome to the Expat community.

As a retiree myself I can assure you there is no health test when you decide to retire in Malta. The procedure is as follows. 1. You register with the residence authorities. After your registration application is confirmed you can register with the Malta health authority called "Entitlement Unit" which is located at St. Luke hospital. The health service over here is quite good and many people from the UK told me it is better than in the UK. If you have a German health insurance you can request a health service transfer from Germany to Malta. This means after that you are entitled to free medical treatment in Malta  which is refundable. The German health insurance will pay your medical bills over here.
