Are you assimilated to Brazil? Fun Facts
Todays Fun Fact Quiz. Are you assimilated to Brazillian Society
Three easy questions to evaluate your Brazillian assimilation.
1. Have you memorized your CPF number?
2. Do you turn the key in your house door two rotations to lock it?
3. Have you memorized your cell phone number?
If you answered yes to all three you are exceptionally assimilated. Two out of three, you are very assimilated. One out of three, your getting there. Zero out of three, get started, as these three items are essential in the Brazilian world.
Why am I getting popup ads for an Australian visa?
And now I'm receiving health insurance ads. Why?

Are you a bot to increase ad views?
Looks like expat.com has decided to monetize us.
I will never remember my CPF
Can I delete all of my posts to this forum?
Why do you want to do that?
I do not want expat.com to monetize my content.

If you cancel your membership, they'll replace your screen name with an untraceable dummy name like "Guest Poster XXXX". You can also edit your posts to remove information that you don't want seen.
If the ads are what have you upset, though, you can address that simply by using the Brave browser. I do that, and only see a few unobtrusive ads between posts.
From time to time we have to accidentally click on one of those ads so we can cover the server costs.
@Alan279
I get it. I'm offended by all of the advertising too but realize that the platform exists to generate income for somebody - not simply a forum for us. What really irks me is when one pays for a service and still gets bombarded by undesired advertising yet it seems that it is the way of the world. We used to be offended by excessive highway billboards (and in my state there was even legislation to control it).
"Before the Internet," yup, I'm part of the group that helped make it part of our present reality,we used to laugh and wonder just how anybody could turn such a useful enterprise into a commercial one. As we learned everything about Darpanet, Arpanet and learned by digging through Requests for Comment (RFCs) and communicated via bulletin boards, then gopher servers while using our acoustically coupled modems (my first was 300 baud or 0.3 Kbps).... we couldn't even imagine what the world would turn the Internet into nor the wealth it would generate for certain sectors of society.
It created a new "gilded age" and everyone now sees it as a principle enterprise for generating income. The advertising is the key focus for the generation of that wealth and while every person has the option to refuse to participate, well, I don't know anyone that does that. I do know a lot of people that are very selective about services that they use online and are very well informed about businesses that are part of this environment.
Regarding ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ, well, I'm glad that it exists because I have met interesting people here. It has allowed me to connect with people that I enjoy exchanging info with. Obviously, I prefer not to be badgered by excessive advertising, moreso by advertising that has little to do with the focus of the service. I wouldn't mind at all to see even better advertising that assists me as an expat living in a place where not all of my needs (tax assistants, VOIP services, banking needs etcetera) are hard to find.
Like Al mentioned, there are ways to screen out some of the ads but the ads do pay for the service - it takes money to run servers, develop software, moderate topics and such.
Don't leave. We like to have you here.

@alan279 Please Don`t Go...Normally there is music behind that, but I would have to pay royalties.
Anyway, its not a bad thing. I am looking for those Slip-on Sketchers for my birthday anyway...besides if you go all your Ex-Girlfriends will not know where to find you.

@bepmoht A long time ago in a galaxy far faraway this was the original Post Question.
1), No, I know my SS# by heart, but I don`t even use the CPF to bother.
2). Yes, but I didn't notice until you asked the question.
3). Actually, Verizon masked my Brazilian phone number with a MD. (301) number that is easier to remember.

As @abthree mentioned, if ads are what concerns you, you need to always use a browser that a) you disable all cookies, and b) do not allow tracking.
I unashamedly use Tor Browser and Duckduck go - which does not allow cookies and tracking. ½ûÂþÌìÌà is based in Mauritius and there are very few safeguards against advertising.... However, as you know, if you don't want advertising, you have to be able to fool the content management system.
There used to be an "anonymizer" site. But this seems to have been brought down.
Again, this may be TMI for everyone - but there are various ways to deal with advertising without having to drop the site. Please PM me and I'll give you the inside track.
Let's be frank here... We (or at least I) enjoy hearing from you.
Hang in there.

- Did not know that this was a thing.... BTW, this should not really matter if you use an Intelbras smart lock, right?
- Will do when I get one.

- Some days. But my husband remembers it every day, and it's on my RG in my wallet letting me peek anytime, so between those two things I figure I'm covered. Â

CPF is needed for paying Brazilian income tax, registering property, using Minhas Importações, and accessing anything on gov.br, but the thing that I use my CPF for most is picking up prescriptions. The pharmacy chains have discount programs for people over 60 (which include many OTC remedies and supplies, as well), and so do many of the pharmaceutical labs for different drugs, and all of them run on CPF. I don't have a lot of prescriptions but a couple that I do have are pretty pricey, so the savings are respectable.
@abthree I don`t have it memorized, but I do have it with me whenever I go out.

Drogasil is the closest pharmacy to me, and I like their app. Page Menos, Indiana and Velane are also close. Do you have any preference? Do I have to sign-up to an old peoples discount plan (they know my age, of course)?

Roddie, I considered a tattoo, but I'm afraid of needles. 😳
@alan279 No, should it be?

I was truly puzzled by that one, but then I remembered that if your Ex-Girlfriend`s lawsuits went thru you may have needed it in jail, since they would probably check your pockets. Good thing it didn't go thru.

I can still remember strings of numbers up to 12 digits, sometimes 16, in my current state of descent into decrepitude. My memory was better when i was younger. 🙃

Memories.
A bunch of mates hooked up Creed machines to VHF radios to create radio teletrype nets. Setting up the low and high tones was pure trial and error until SuperFred built an audio interface that included a frequency counter.
All they needed to do after that was give me a shout and I could sort them out in minutes over the air.

There are some Drogasils here, but they're far away from us. Pague Menos is all over, and sometimes even live up to their name; they're our default pharmacy. PharmaBem and Santo Remédio/Flexfarma also have a big presence and tend to be a little higher. Our biggest regional department store, Bemol, has also opened pharmacies in most of their stores, but they're more expensive.
They all generally want to register your CPF for the store discounts, and the labs always do. My (imported) asthma medicine costs R$1,352 for three packages, and the discount is R$730, so it's definitely worth it.Â
