Hi Fred, yes, it's rough.  I've met some wonderful people on this blog and if you're active, I'm sure you'll have the same good fortune.  Also, this is a time in your life where you're free to pursue hobbies, things you never 'had time for' in your real life

I've spent time re-reading all the old classics--am currently on Catch 22.

Welcome to Riyadh, Fred.  It took me a good 2 months to get settled in. I am sure that you will eventually find folks here that share the same interests.  I, too, have met some very good people.  In fact, I have been invited to the wedding of one of the guys I met from here.

Welcome Onboard. Well try to look out in the directions of your interest or hobbies. You will surely find too many people having same interest like yours. Get in touch with those people and start from there. I always beleive first 4 months, you do have teething problems, eventually things settle down for good.

Yes I do (not sometimes but regularly) Sports activities keep me sane here..

For a 3 point game ONLY.... Smoking kills man! (esp the stamina). A couple of months back I tried getting back to the addiction after 11 long years....didn't go very well.

Are you talking about a 3 set game or a 3 point??? Yeh Smoking does kill, I used to be a chain smoker till 6 yrs ago.

A couple of months ago what ?? You started again or got rid of it??? Didnt get you.

We have a couple of squash courts in our compound. PM me ur number we can have a game  even for 3 points !!

Ah man! It's not easy to get rid of smoking. The first thing I do before/after getting in/out of gym following heavy workout is 'tobacco'.

Well they wont kick anyone of us out from the court, becoz my playing there keeps the court clean.

welcome to riyadh [guess it's not too late ] Riyadh may not be the most boring place on earth... you just need to get used to it I mean the lifestyle et al. Make friends, try new things that may conform the saudi laws & culture.

Thank you all for your support and assurances that life will change,I am not very optimistic,Thanks Ibrahim for your promises may be you been living here for long time its an interesting city;frankly since I been here I tried to explore the city to find any interesting places,the only thing I can do is Malls and restaurants,its getting boring especially when you know no one in the lonely city.Yesterday I took a taxi to Tahlya street ,its nice a lot of side walk "cafes" it reminds me kind of Ottawa but missing the "ICE COLD BEER".

How can you break the thick ice of our bored life during days off,I don't think the Saudi heat will do.Any ideas ? In two months I explored all the interesting sites in the city which is extremely unique!!!!!!!!!!!!!
