I always get the feeling the National Assembly doesn't really react to petitions. Certainly demonstrations are out - although TP HCM allows them.

VN proposes to have 13 nuclear stations soon (by 2020) to solve the power shortage.

Already VN is buying power from Cambodia, Laos and China, a situation that never existed only five years ago (no cross border power lines!).

Unfortunately Cat Tien National Park isn't too high on people's radar screens in TP HCM. Ask how many people on the chat room have been there?

Conservation is more effective. Ever been past the Tax Centre when the doors were LEFT OPEN? Positively freezing.

I haven't used an air-con in TP HM for over four years now, fans yes, and it is quite bearable and I come from a country where -30C to -40C is common in the winter.

So down with the air-con and water heaters and switch those TV's off at the outlet and really start saving power.

@Giangle: It's refreshing to see your passion.

Coming from an Environmental education background, this news is depressing but hardly shocking.  I've been harping about dams in VN for three years back in the states, but regular people just tuned it out.

If you are interested in saving the environment, be prepared to die heart broken and alone in a wounded world.

People in charge don't give two shats about other people, yet alone ecosystems.  It's just another big project that will benefit "certain" contractors.

@JAITCH: I know how you feel.  I work for a school system at multiple locations.  Each one of them has the AC cranked on full blast, all the time, with the doors/ windows open.  Then they wonder why there is a weekly power outage.  Sometimes I feel like I traded in my values for a paycheck.

People here refuse to conserve anything; educating them is an uphill battle in a rusty wheelchair with flat tires.

If you ever get to visit Lai Chau Province, my favourite, and to a lesser extent in Son La Province you will be saddened by the desecration of the landscapes by EVN and partners building dams, often one after the other on the same river.

The 500Kvolt dual wire grid system will likely be extended from Son La, where it ends presently, to Lai Chau Province to carry all the energy to the high density areas.

I was surprised to learn that Da Nang has a disproportionately high consumption of electricity.

The good thing is that the more power EVN gets from renewables, the quicker they an shut down the Hai Phong coal burners.

Cat Tien is the home of the Vietnamese Javan Rhinoceros, an occasion that brought the park to the world's notice.

Parts of the park were sprayed with Agent Orange during the American War in VietNam. The damage continues today because of illegal logging, poaching and neighbouring settlements 'acquiring' farm land.

I understand the was part, allegedly there have been sightings and another new species of some other animal.

They have cameras dotted around all over taking pictures of wandering animals.

Cat Loc was declared a Rhino sanctuary by the WWF, who estimate that there are only 5 - 8 Javan rhinos left presently. There are about  60 armed park wardens who have great fondness in their “Vietnamese Rhino” and continually patrol the area on the lookout for poachers.

There are numerous foreign teams haunting the park, one is a friend of a friend and really gets revved about some of the things they spot.

Some discoveries of frogs were the cause of celebration not long ago.

Luxury Tours are now running 2-person guided tours there at over USD$200 per person per trip.

Nice to know that a country like VietNam cares about such things.

13 nuclear power stations planned eh? its great to see vietnamese have learned from the yukashima and chernobyl examples...great stuff guys....no one can accuse you of blindly copying the west in any way shape or form,..a truly independant nation

if they had any balls they would develop one of the free energy technologies there are, such as tesla's, which are all of course suppressed by global oil interesrs....

anyone running around doing petitions to save nature is just wasting their time,...you think a bunch of high level people are going to say no to hundreds of thousands of dollars for the sake of nature?....the human race isnt that developed yet

Jaitch, how do you get around not using water heater? Cold showers?
I agree it is possible to be without the AC.

I never use the water heater either. Maybe it's a Canadian thing. ;)

Thanks all for your comment. I know it is hard to change the government's decision but I rather take action than do nothing. if you wish to protect this planet, sign and share the link.
Thanks again

We should organize some "Expeditions" to Cat Tien National Park.
For peoples and future generations to (re)learn that without Nature, they're would not be any"Life"...

Agreed, free energy is everywhere (look up Tesla).
Many died, trying to make it available... Risky business.
