if you are a resident you will have to register your car in Malta.

Whether to buy in Malta or elsewhere will depend what car you are looking at. I would suggest avoiding all the hassle and buying a car in Malta.

Other people can't take the car out of Malta every 6 months to avoid registration unless they are tourists and just come and go.

I'm not sure what you mean with work and residence and tax ?
To work in Malta you normally have to be resident and pay taxes.

If you already have a car which you like very much, it's worth considering to bring it to Malta, otherwise it's mostly not worth it.
Bringing a car to Malta on your own or buying an recently imported car in Malta makes not so much difference ... but buying a car which was already registered before 2009 makes a difference - and most seller know this

Agree totally, from experience i recently had.
Your Best bet is to Buy on the Island and if ya dont mind a second hand pre 2009 registered motor you will save on the road tax aswell.
