Need help. I know a police officer in the UK who is able to sign passport applications in the UK. Would he be sufficient enough to certify my photos if I send my residency application by post?

And do you just send photocopies of required documents and not original copies of Ie. Work Contract and passport. Im confused with the email that was sent.

Thanks

I just got my reply this morning telling me they are no longer taking applications by appointment and I should apply by post instead.

It says originals AND copies then the originals are sent back to you. Not sure I feel very comfortable just throwing my passport and employment documents in an envelope to the expatriate office and waiting for their eventual return....

It doesn't specify that the person signing your document should be of a certain nationality. So I would assume your police contact is acceptable. But there are other ways to get it signed in Malta too. I think like the UK most doctors here will sign, but you will have to pay for an appointment to do so.

btw, I moved here from Doncaster (almost 3 years ago). Nice to meet you!

I'm from Wheatley hills, then I lived in the Town Centre for a few years. I don't miss Doncaster at all but I do miss not being so close to a KFC anymore. Do you have a date in mind for moving here?

There are really no major issues regarding living in Malta without an ID card, You are from the EU so you can get an NI number apply for a job, rent an apartment, buy a car, get insurance etc.. with just a passport and proof of address. But without an ID card you most likely won't get a Maltese bank account, reduced rates on transport or utility bills or free/discount health care.... It makes life easier if you have an ID though but it isn't the end of the world if you don't have it straight away. I'm not really stressing about the new ID thing at all and I'm already here. Everyone is just a bit confused about this pain in the arse process
