Canadian teacher possibly moving to Salmiya Kuwait

Post new topic

nadia26

Hello everyone,

I am a Canadian teacher possibly going to accept an offer teaching in an American Private School in Kuwait. Now, I am a bit nervous as I am a female and concerned with safety and walking alone to go places such as malls, shopping etc. Are there many Canadians teaching in Salmiya? How is it like living there in terms of social life? Are women alowed to go about as they wish? ....Thanks:)

also...how racially diverse is the foreign teaching community from north america?

There are lots of teachers in Kuwait - not sure about Salmiya in particular. I'm Canadian but not a teacher. Kuwait is really safe. Don't worry about safety but of course, don't do anything stupid like walk alone late at night. There aren't many sidewalks and need a car to go places but taxis are easy to find. And you can come and go as you please. It is not an uberconservative Muslim country. You'll realize that when you get here. Although I would advise you be respectful in your dress, I've seen locals wearing some questionable clothing. It will be a good experience, just come with an open mind and an adventurous spirit. Good luck. :)

for fun u need to be creative and adventurous - dare to try new things - look for expat gatherings and mingle - use google to find if ur passion is available in kuwait like toastmastering, running, cycling, jet skiing, sand duning, poetry, writing, volleyball, rugby etc. theres a bit of heaven for everyone who takes the time to look for what they want.
