World Bank Warns Kuwait On Waste

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The World Bank has warned of classifying Kuwait among the countries that generate high durable waste, reports Al-Qabas daily. In a recent report, the World Bank stated each person in Kuwait produces 1.4kg of durable waste and expected the garbage dumps would cover 5,433 square/kilometers by early 2020.

It envisaged a huge problem for Kuwait, in view of the fact that the country lacks vast lands for developmental projects, aside from health hazards the garbage dumps of this magnitude may pose.

An environmental expert from the World Bank warned Kuwait of severe health implications if it continues to abandon the garbage dumps, citing Qurain residential area which has 15 old garbage sites extending by 27 square/kilometers. Report indicated Kuwait has three active sites for burying garbage in Jahra, Abdullah Port and the Seventh Ring Road, while 400 tons of garbage is deposited each day

Surprise, the waste value is so low.  Food waste is high.  Would like more resturaunts and shops to measure and report on waste.  Perhaps the guys I see at the dumps rummaging through are doing a decent job of recycling.

Opportunity for those in recycling or renewable enegy or waste management. Composting is a good way to deal with organic waste. The other waste can be used for building green houses, roads and other physical infrastructure.   A potential oasis made of waste.

Totally agree, but do you think the locals are bothered about what is happening or the state of the country? Any recycling programmes taking place anywhere locally.. any investment in renewable energy? The answer is a big emphatic NO.
