Moving to KL with family on 7000 RM salary

Post new topic

Hi Friends,

I have been offered a salary of 7000 RM take home by an IT firm in KL. Will I be able to make ends meet with this amount? I have a 4 yr old kid who has to be schooled.

I do not plan to use a car and would prefer public transport and would settle for an unfurnished / semi-furnished apartment.

Please advise.

Regards,
Anwar

Yes it is possible - absolutely minimum budget below:
Education RM1750 upwards
Accommodation RM1000-RM1500 upwards
Food RM1000-1500
Utilities RM 100
Internet/TV RM200
Transportation (depends on distance) RM150
Mobile Phone RM100 per person

Public transport does not have very good coverage, so you need to choose carefully where you live and make sure it has bus services.

Thanks Agnes. I have not got details on the time for pay rise. Since the company is India-based, it is most likely to be every year

Hi Sadat,

RM 7,000 with only one kid is a bearable amount in KL. But you really need to be careful on choosing the housing area, so that the transportation won't be eating you out. I have it written on my blog regarding of the living expenses whileinkl.com/kuala-lumpur-living-cost-2015/

School fee in Malaysia does have a very wide range, so the fee will be depends on what kind of school do you choose for your child. As per my experience, I send my son to a local english speaking kindergarten and it cost me RM500/months.
