Building question

Post new topic

Hello

Hoping somebody can give us some clarity. We recently built a new house but are having issues with the construction of the boundary wall.

The existing house was demolished as was the old boundary fence. The new house has been constructed but we are yet to start the garden/boundary wall. Our neighbour has approached us and stated that we need to submit a separate planning application to construct a garden wall. Is this correct? It seems strange that we need planning permission to build a garden wall.

Any body have any experience?

Thanks

may be because there is a minimum set back, from the boundary line, that is permissible .
Check this document or check wit your city or village council:

Thanks for the info, very useful link. The set back isn't an issue, it's the position of the wall itself. We are surrounded by a mix of all sorts of  houses with all sorts of walls, it seems strange me that we would need planning when other neighbours have simply built what they want where they wanted.

gawesh

It might also be the height of the wall. Check with your city/village council as previously suggested.

Hi dear,
its not very clear for me what you are saying but the laws says that your house should be 900mm or 90cm or 3 feet form the boundary or edge of your land (this is the set back) for the house and now regarding the boundary wall it should be built either on the center of the boundary of the land that is the center of the wall is 1/2 in the neighbor land and half in your land but this should be a mutual agreement between you and him or in your in your land completely and you don't need any agreement.
Regarding the permit for the walls, all permanent structures need approval from the council ie stone walls or block walls, fencing or iron sheets or plants does not as its considered to be temporary structures.

check on your drawing for your house sent for approval or approved by the council if its shown the new boundary wall !! if yes then you don't need any more approval.

hope that's helps you

Hello

Thanks for your reply. We didn't initially apply for a permit for the wall as we had planned for an open driveway and lawn. However neighbours keep parking on our land now that the original sheet metal fence has been removed. The council are being completely unhelpful. They will only grant a permit if we agree to put a curved wall around each corner of our garden as opposed to building up into each corner. We don't want this as it shrinks our garden and closes access to our driveway. Are all wooden fences OK to build without a permit?if so then we will just have wood and be done with it?

Thanks

hi dear,

Yes you can mix wood and shrubs or Chinese bamboos  as a temporary structure. you can check on google you will have nice design mix of these three items which you can combine.

cheers
