Pets in Portugal

Post new topic

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Many of us in Portugal have four-legged friends. What about you? Do you have one or more pets? Share your experience with us!

What are the formalities to import pets in Portugal? What about pet adoption procedures in the country? Did you bring your pet from your home country to your host country? If so, did everything turn out fine?

What do Portuguese think about pets? Are they comfortable with dogs, cats or unusual pets?

Share your advice!

I have 2 cats. Whomever I met, they always had some kind of animal in their houses (dog, cat, bird, fish, etc). Apartment complexes I have seen don't seem to mind tenants having pets unless it becomes a problem for other tenants. I haven't seen any openly hostile person towards animals so far in my experience. I don't think Portugal is as pet-friendly as UK or Nordic Countries, but it is not "not friendly" either. As long as you are a responsible pet owner, people don't seem to mind.
