Fortaleza is a amazing town, but if you like easy life style l would recommend Maranguape or Euzebio, 20 min from Fortaleza but properties price way lower and less rush life style.

We own a very small condo (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, about 100 square meters total) in the Fatima neighborhood, which is a relatively upscale neighborhood fairly close to downtown. The building is about 15 years old and has a lot of amenities in the common areas (pool, sauna, areas to host parties, etc.).

But we don't live there. It's too small for our family of four. So, we currently rent the condo to a family member for R$1200 per month. In addition to the rent, the tenant pays a condominium fee of R$460 per month. Someone told us recently that the condo is worth about R$500,000, but I don't know how accurate that is.

We are currently looking at houses for rent in the Montese / Bom Futuro / Parreao neighborhoods. For R$1600 a month, you can rent a pretty huge house.

Fortaleza is a big town (the 5th biggest in Brazil), so there also is a big difference in neighborhoods, quality of houses, and thus in property prices. It all depends how much demands you have about your accommodation. The environment is most decisive for the price level. Make sure you don't end up in the poorer parts of town (favela's), you don't want to be there. If you have your own transportation Eusebio or Aquiraz might be a good alternative. It's growing rapidly, but up to now it is a bit more quiet.
