Car Dealership

HI
Can anyone recommend a reliable, honest, car dealership in Santo Domingo or southwest towards Barahona?
W are looking for a good used SUV 2011 to 2017.
To get a good idea what is available and the pricing range, use Supercarros website:
I checked out several vehicles posted on this website in Santo Domingo and when I had found a couple I liked, went and checked them out with a friend who is mechanically minded. The car I bought has been reliable for the past 3 years over the length and breadth of DR. The dealer was also open and fair and did all the change of ownership work and licensing at cost, and set me up with several insurance quotations.
Thanks for the encouraging words!!
Lol

Sorry honey. They import write offs from USA. They roll back mileage, lie thru their teeth. I have only bought vehicles privately!
It is a fact that there are a lot of questionable imported vehicles out there. A lot of insurance write offs find their way into the country.
A used Hyundai, Kia or Toyota bought from an authorized manufacturer's dealer in DR maybe an option to consider rather than an imported used vehicle. These brands are the most popular in DR.
Ok
Thanks for the heads up.
We will probably try the same.

Sorry, I posted an address that was wrong. I relied on my faulty memory. Correct site is  pilgrimautoimports@gmail.com  Ask to speak with John. It isn't what you think.
I just wanted to say something regarding Kia and Hyundai. Just this past Monday 11/18/18 at 8:30pm while watching t.v. with my husband we heard a loud POP noise ran out the front door to see his Kia Soul ingulfed in flames roaring up to top of garage (it was parked outside thank God). The vehicle had been in driveway since 4pm when he got home. I have never been so nervous and scared, I called 911 while backing my car out of driveway away from his burning one....I just kept telling 911 operator to "Hurry our house is going to burn!" My husband got the fire out with extinguisher and a water hose before fire truck arrived, they were there in 6-7 min. The kia soul is TOTALED and some damage to garage and black soot on cement drive way where car was sitting, we have to try and get it out this weekend with power washer. But after fire fighters left we Googled to see if anyone else experienced this and YES there is a Huge investigation going on for 2011 to 2015 (maybe 2016) year Kias (at least 3 different models) and a few class action law suits of Kia and Hyundais catching fire while driving and while PARKED. I believe something with wiring. This was news to us, we bought it 1-1/2 years ago. People have been injured and some deaths occured, and house fires. This was so bizarre, to just have a car burst into flames after sitting for 4 hours. I was thankful we had a hose handy and the firemen were fast, but in DR I'm not sure they have emergency responders? So please do research on this if you do decide to buy one of year, make and model that have had recalls and the models being investigated now. Because we will be lucky to get half of our down payment back from insurance company and then our rates will likey go up! And we don't even want to file home claim for repair to garage and driveway ($2,500 deductible) we will do ourselves....anyway Happy Thanksgiving...sorry for depressing story lol!😄
Wow incredible. Glad everyone is okay! Thank you for sharing.
Brings to mind some good points. Recall info is rarely reported here. And if it was you can't act on it out of country.  This applies to all countries. Once you take products out of country you void warrantees.Â
Warrantees are country specific. Products brought in for distribution in DR by authorized distributors may have actual warrantees.
people occasionally ask me to recommend a reputable used car dealership, and my response is always the same....
a used car dealership is only as reputable as you allow them to be. if the average buyer walks into store with a deer in the headlights look, then reputation goes out the window, and the long knives come out. when i walk into the same store with two hand held computers and an automotive stethoscope, and a clipboard with a 35 point checklist, the guy is not going to tell me that the car has only 20k miles, and it was only driven to church by a 95 year old lady.
He also is not going to sell you a car. I have been fortunate to have bought 2 suvs, 2 sedans, & 4 motorcycles ( not motos) all bought privately after much research & word of mouth referrals. Never ever be in a rush or in love with a particular model or make of vehicle. You will pass up other great buys because of color or minor differences. Better to use shoe leather than waste your bucks on an unhappy choice.

Stratford huh?
London & Grand Bend here
I do not buy imported (USA) cars...they're usually fleet blowoffs or flood cars.
Get a car built for export....imported here by a dealer
Less electrical issues... less emission stuff.
I have found nice cars with original warranty still applying... less than 10K miles
Yes - always a dealer... if you know your stuff... they know that
Roll over like a puppy - tummy up and you'll get rubbed
Private sales are too dangerous for me... just me saying
planner wrote:And always insist on getting a Carfax report!! Amazing what is on those reports.
CarFax only available on non Dom vehicles....
doesn't apply to those by Reid & co.... et al
Buying a car from 'inside' the country has no history of CarFax that I know of
Anything imported from USA has Carfax honey. That is where a lot of the garbage vehicles come from. Imported from Japan etc won't have it!
I hope that is what I said....
let me try again (sorry, no honey here...haha)
Cars from Reid & Co will not Carfax
I try not to buy USA imports because of the point you make
Personally mine is an Isuzu MUX.... no carfax but a great, bulletproof car
made for 3rd world countries.... even 'though this is 2.5 world
I'm not really 'Aplantado'... but I get by !!
planner makes a good point that Carfax should be requested , where available. that means on USA cars, which had insurance with a commercial carrier. self insured cars will not have carfax, because it is a fact sheet which is composed from insurance reporting, and state safety inspections. if a major company self insures, and pays out of pocket for any sustained damages, Carfax will not know that info.
secondly, there are other services such as AutoCheck, which are conceptually similar, but cheaper. well, as the old bromide goes, you get what you pay for. in very many cases, the car might have had four events, but AutoCheck only records two. also, the car might be 4 years old, but AC only shows 2 years of facts.
carfax is a great tool. most dealers here do not want to present it, because they buy bogus cars, and they want to hide things, or back up the odometer. any kid with a laptop can lop off 100k miles in 30 seconds. there is no affordable tool which has forensic capability to determine if the mileage has been rigged. many dealers will also tell you that they will run a carfax for you, but you have to front up 5000 pesos for the report. they know you won't agree to that.
the only answer is experience and skill...get a guy who knows his thing.
I did a Carfax on a vehicle a few years ago to prove a point. Vehicle was bought from a dealer - 4 men looked.it over etc. I just didn't feel right about it so I paid the 25 bucks for the Carfax. Easy to do online. What a mess. Insurance write off, odometer rolled back over 150,000 miles. It was a piece of junk!!!
Try a CarFax on my car
2015 Isuzu MUX
won’t work
I try not to buy US cars
Yes
Bad idea to buy those cars IMO
There is a fellow here who knows this stuff
I suppose I cannot mention his name
He may step up... he’s shy
I am just an old fart eho kicks tires, raises the hood, listens, shakes the front tires, checks wear on the brake pedal, and all the novice stuff. Then my friend rings it out, He then says Go or No go. Yeah, I'm lucky, after mucho enjoyment of all of them, sold them for 3 to 400 % profit, the last bike for over 500% above cost.  People knew how I took care of my stuff. Not greedy, just old fashioned common sense. Let it work for you too. Oh, by the way, lest you think it was a business, it began in 1996. Have fun, there ain't no return ticket in this life of ours. PAY IT FORWARD!      I am so far behind all this initial crap, please tell me what IMO means. I just learned not so long ago what BTDT meant.
IMO = In My Opinion
I am the same
where I grew up - London Canada - they lined up for my cars..
well maintained and pretty besides....wives = no different --- hahaha
BTDT has me stumped... which isn't hard to do
FWIW = for what it's worth
As to the dealership recommendation
NdeC... Rosa Beato...
All Spanish but very nice.... helpful
I and my friends have bought there
You can use supercarros and select a dealership to see their inventory
I just prefer  words. We keep getting further away from personal communication. And look at what that PC crap has wrought. No more tire kicking, only a string of 30 or so connected letters. WTF is it all coming too? Virtual autos next? I have had excellent results buying used from private sources. Good hunting & keep us informed. It is not quite a difficult task as Promethous had, but close.  (can't spell in Greek either)
he has already stepped up. he is just trying to iron out the wrinkles regarding making his services known without violating the protocols of the site..
To be straightforward Cruffman provides this service! Contact him by private messenger to find out what he can do to help you. He has helped a lot of people source verify and buy vehicles!
If "He" is who I think he is.... he helped me
I shopped and bought while off island
The physical - on site- inspection and price negotiations were done by him.
Armchair shopping... I knew the car I wanted.
If you're 'looking' - he'll offer alternatives for your final selection
He has all the diagnostic tools...
