When you arrive you will get a 30day tourist visa stamped in your passport. If you are  then staying longer than the 30 days you will need to go to your nearest Immigration office before the 30 days is up and get an extension for the next 30 days.
Do not miss that date as you can and probably will be fined and asked to leave Belize.
The first stamp as you arrive has no charge the extensions will have a fee of $50bze dollars for each 30 days, for the first 6 months after that the extensions fee is $100bze for each 30 days. Note the 30 days can shrink by a couple of days as the Immigration offices do not work weekends and take all public holidays and Christmas for example can be a 4 day holiday.

Coming in October you  will be in the rainy season so weather mainly will be hot humid  and wet, bring comfortable appropriate clothing.  If staying into January you may hit the COLD season it lasts a couple of weeks and you probably need a sweater or Jacket.
Strong Comfortable footwear is a must if likely to be  hiking or walking in jungle areas.  Personal note if you have bigger than average feet you may have difficulty getting footwear other than flip flops for the beach. Bigger sizes in shoes and clothing my son finds in Dangriga, ( my son is 6ft 5" and size 13 or 14 shoes)

Bring with you any things likely to be useful for all your interests like Binoculars or camera if watching wildlife, or snorkle  gear ( googles/mask and flippers) if diving, or fishing gear if that your thing. Normal day to day needs are available in Belize. unless you have total brand loyalty for a particular item which could prove unavailable for your brand.  Hope this helps.

You can remain in Belize for up to 6 months if you report to Immigrations every 30 days to renew your 30-day tourist visa. After 6 months, you must leave Belize, if only for a short time. Go back home for a quick visit; or maybe travel to Panama for a week. When you get your 30-day renewal, ask the agent there how long you must be gone after 6 months. I think it is only a few days - but do ask first.

I always get my passport 30-day renewal done at the Immigrations Office in Dangriga. They are so NICE there! Everybody is nice in Dangriga! I get my truck license renewed there, too.  In and out quickly - with a smile. Then we have lunch at a Garifuna restaurant on the beach.

But like the other person said - don't let it go longer than 30 days or you could be in trouble. You will definitely be in trouble at the B.C. or Belmopan Immig. Offices.

Three points:
1) I am under the impression that after 6-thirty day extensions the price for the extension just doubled from BZD$50 to BZD$100, without needing to leave the country.
We have never stayed more than 4 months at a time because of needing to do things back in Texas.

2) It is possible to request and get a 60 day or 90 day extension just by asking and paying the total fee due for the time requested.  HOWEVER each office seems to have their own set of rules on this. At the Big Creek port office (Independence)  Only the head officer is allowed to sign the extension beyond 30 days.  The last time over we requested and received a 60 day extension. (We did not need the 90 day). A week later I mentioned this to an acquaintance going after her 5th extension and she received the 90 day one. She thanked me the next time we saw her.  They do ask why you need it, and we simply said we were old and is was hard on us making the trip from Placencia.

3) I know two people that reside in Placencia, went to Dangriga last month to get their 30 day extensions, get chewed out for bothering them in that office instead of going to Big Creek where according to the officer they were "supposed" to go.
They went to Dangriga because they had other things to do there and just timed it to do everything in one trip. They did get their extension, but were told not to do it again....

So like many things in Belize, your millage may vary.  :)

Good news, if true for folks in Placencia. From two local sources, I was told Immigration was going to open an office in Placencia, so we wont need to make the Hokey Pokey run to Mango Creek, then a cab ride to Big Creek. (If it happens)  :D

I have heard of these 90-day extensions. I'll try it - in Dangriga.

Maybe the Dangriga Immigration staff only like old guys from Gales Point, but not Placencia. .Wonder why?

If we have learned anything, it is that logic does not apply in Belize.

Actually, we can go to any immigration office in Belize, not just the one we live nearest.

Many Belize bureaucrats have the natural inclination to tell people like you and me to:
a. go away and come back next monday;
b. go to another office in (far away), but not on Monday mornings or before or after elections.

I smile and tell them, "I'm not going anywhere until you stop texting your mom and stamp my passport." If its almost lunchtime, they'll do it.
