how to integrate my family into Swedish society

Post new topic

Hi all, hej allihopa,

I’m in a bit of a unique situation as I’m looking to relocate back to Stockholm, but with my dual nationality kids and British husband.

The situation with Brexit has really given us the push up the bum that we needed - we’ve been toying with the idea of moving there / home for years, but I guess we found life in the UK reaonsable.

I’ll be looking for support and advice on how to integrate my family into Swedish society - they love coming over and the kids understand Swedish fluently, just hardly speak it. My seven year old would need to start school ASAP, so I’ll be trying to figure out if putting him into an international / English speaking speaking school or whether he’s best off going to a local Swedish school.

Hubby and I are both looking into employment opportunities currently, my background is admin so that’s pretty straightforward, and hubby is senior in Software testing, so should be pretty easy..??

HÃ¥ll tummarna!

I think your seven year old don't get any trouble speaking swedish if beginning an ordnary swedish school. The only problem I see here is that you and your husband needs the language. There is a lot of words that are similar to english in Swedish but I suggest you listen to the radio, see swedish news on television and use hobbies or interests to join an association in Sweden. Like, if you are interested in photography join or similar. You also see some tips for free swedish courses on web on .  Welcome to Sweden.
