Renting in Mauritius - pros and cons

Post new topic

Blackriver

Hi everyone,

I wanted to inquire how you go about renting a local property in Mauritius.

1.  Is it similar to the UK i.e. 6 or 12  month contract availability, 4 weeks notice period, 1 month rent as deposit and references required?

2. What are the rights of the tenant?

3. What are the landlords like?

I would appreciate any advice, pros and cons.

Thanks,
BR

Hello,
1 and 2: similar to the UK and France as well.
3: they are all different, some are ok and some are terrible. You must be very cautious. I have heard a lot of dreadful stories. Some agents are dishonest too.

A lot of people here - not all of them of course - do not follow the rules and regulations and work illegally. You need to take a lot of precautions.

Good luck
