Moving to Morocco just before the crisis

Diksha

Hi everybody,

Taking the plunge and daring to move abroad is a real challenge, but when your move to Morocco is marked by an unprecedented health, social and economic crisis, as we have been experiencing for just over a year, this change can be much more significant and demanding. If you moved to Morocco shortly before or during the pandemic, we would like to know more about your experience.

When and under what circumstances did you move to Morocco?

What impact did the restrictions have on your integration into the country?

Were you able to make new friends in your host country and get used to the new culture and environment?

Have you had the opportunity to discover the country or the region where you are staying despite that?

Do you feel "at home" in this new place?

Thanks for your contribution!

When and under what circumstances did you move to Morocco?

I moved here a year prior to the covid issue. I moved because I didn’t like the direction the US was going. I didn’t want my last two daughters raised in an environment where there are so many issues with race, religion, and gender identity that didn’t align with my religious core.

What impact did the restrictions have on your integration into the country?

Actually, the only impact was us being able to travel throughout the world. Other than that we were fine.

Were you able to make new friends in your host country and get used to the new culture and environment?

We definitely made new friends whom we consider family now and dodged some bullets too. People can be so greedy and sketchy with the shenanigans. We still haven’t gotten used to the staring and talking too much about things that’s none of your business.

Have you had the opportunity to discover the country or the region where you are staying despite that?

Yes, we have and we renewed our residency for a longer period of time too. We have went many places even in lockdown. We were very precautious only went with whom we knew and kept our circle very tight. Anytime we go out we wear our masks and even if this slows down I’ll still wear my mask because it’s not going anywhere.

Do you feel "at home" in this new place?

Yes, I do feel very at home in Morocco as a matter of fact my older daughter has to start college and we had to go back to the US to get her ready for university. When I tell you the shock is real it’s very real. I can’t wait to go back home and see my Moroccan family and be in my own home. My daughter thought she would be excited to be back in the US, but she said she’s not. The most excitement leaving is her being able to find clothes and shoes her size. She’s very tall young lady with not average size feet. We couldn’t find her size in clothing or shoes there. She misses Morocco a lot more than she thought she would, but she can come back anytime.

Salam and Sabah al kher to one and all.
My dear wife is Moroccan and I love Morocco.
My wife and I would love to move from Australia and settle in Morocco as soon as possible but there are two major problems (level of health care and high corruption) we read of and this scares us. Even though our first choice is Morocco I've asked my wife to consider moving to and investing in Spain and spending our holidays in Morocco.
Unfortunately,  we've had first hand experience with people who are supposedly very religious but turned out to be liars and thieves. Others we know of have also have had bad investment and trust experiences.
Now, we are going through the courts fighting to get back what is rightfully ours. If you invest in Morocco go in with your eyes open. Every country has its fair share of scam artists but morocco is rife with them. Don't take anyone's word on the surface. Get a good lawyer and a reputable accountant.

Your comments are fair, all countries have there fair share. I agree.

However Spin and Eu and other countries, are just good at hiding the corruption, at lest in Morocco you can see it openly which then gives you the choice to proceed or not. Yes it’s difficult and mentality of people are very different from what we are used to.

But every country is the same, Morocco is improving and cracking down on corruption which can been seen openly and a big improvement from what is used to be.

Many high profile people and high ranking people
Have been caught and prosecuted in the correct way and there are now hotlines set up to report corruption.

The infrastructure is much better if not better than other Western Countries. (The main cities anyways)

Investment in Morocco is much more rewarding as it’s still developing. The currency improving and much more stable than most of countries.  Currency restriction are still in place but should be floating soon. Which will
Open upper Opportunity.

Healthcare, yes is not the best compared to the West. However Morocco are now open to oversea medical staff and investment which now is bringing the health system up to the western Standards. (Slow improvement but it’s improving) of course if you go private the cost are much higher but there where insurance come handy. Not as expensive as other country and Morocco do have famous and renonce Drs all over the world.

Iv been hear for 7 years and yes it’s been difficult but nothing is impossible. Iv traveled and lived in many parts of the world and I can say everywhere is the same just some are good at hiding the reality than others.

Look at the U.K. NHS is one of the best but you could be on a waiting list for years before any treatment. If you go private then the prices are unaffordable. So there are advantages and disadvantages everywhere.

As for investments yes there are a lot of fraud in all counties. I can say Even in Morocco I have lost alot of money and been tricked and trusted the wrong people. But the same has happened in U.K. USA Australia Asia also.

Sorry you had a bad experience but this happens everywhere and shouldn’t stop people
From investment. Just research and conduct your investment like you would anywhere in the world.

I have an investment firm in Morocco and I would say now is the right time to invest.
