Visit pass extension request to MOM

Post new topic

Hi, I’m currently residing in Singapore. I have been in Singapore since 2011 and studied at Poly. I have been working with S pass since after Poly and achieved degree (part-time) and master (part-time). After working for many years, I decided to take a break from work and do full time study. So, I started student pass application in April and cancelled my S pass in May. After my S pass was cancelled, I received visit pass that is valid till 6 June.

But my student pass application is still pending. Waiting for another pass application is not one of the options that I can choose from if I want to extend my visit pass. Anyway, I tried my luck and asked my employer to request for extension with the reason saying that I would like to wait for few more weeks for my student pass application outcome. I have attached supporting documents as well.

Right now, extension request result is not out yet. I worry that extension request is rejected and I might overstay. My plan is that if extension request is rejected, I would buy the closest available flight. I’m not sure if MOM will give extension till that closest available flight date.

Consider below scenario:
My extension request result comes out as rejected on 3 June. Then, I will try to book the closest available flight. Since there is only one flight per week to my country, it is possible that the closest available flight is on 12 June. I will book the flight on 12 June.

But will MOM officer extend my visit pass till 12 June in this case? Or will I be overstay if I can fly back only on 12 June?

Understand your situation. Did you call MoM and have a chat around this? Don't worry, I don't think student pass approvals should be problem...Should come through soon. Maybe Beppi will have more idea about student pass applications.

I called. The officer I talked to couldn't disclose any info on my extension request. He said it's in process. He also said the result of the extension request depends on the officer who processes the request.
May be someone here in this forum can help to answer the question I raised at the end of my initial post.
Thanks in advance !

You are correct: Not (or not yet) having a continuing visa isn't a valid reason to extend your STVP, but travel restrictions is. So book a flight within two weeks after your STVP expiry and ask the ex-employer to apply for the STVP extension.
(Under current circumstances, once you leave the country your student pass application might also be voided and you cannot come back. Why the hell did you resign from your job before your next pass was approved???)

Thanks for your answer, @beppi. Your point is absolutely correct. Giving up my S Pass before I get my student pass approved is the biggest REGRET of my life. I blame myself for this.

Then, let's say my current extension request is rejected cos my flight booking date is after 2 weeks of STVP expiry date. Then, I can make another booking date which is within 2 weeks. Then, it shouldn't be no problem, right.
Thanks.

As far as I know, they don't extend for more than two weeks. So it is better to book it within two weeks from the expiry date in the first place.
