Buying property in India

Christine

Hi,

can a foreigner buy property in India?

If so, is it complicated? What is the process of purchasing a property in India?

Any tips for buying property, such as a check-list of items to verify ?

Thanks in advance for participating!

No I don't think a foreigner can buy property - you need a PIO card (person of Indian Origin) which you get only if you marry an Indian or have an Indian parent. Buying property is quite a process as you would expect. Main thing to watch out for is the demands for "black" money which some sellers want - basically under the table cash. Difficult to find a property which is 100% white but it can be done. Then post that, the usual hassles of registration and stamp duty etc.....

Hope this helps!
