Try Bakso, Mie ayam, soto, pecel sayur, ayam penyet, sambal and the list goes on. Just too many!

Nasi gila is wonderful.
Zalie nasi gila in Temanggong, central Java is the best I've tried.

Hmm yummy makes me hungry..
My Favorite is Gulai ikan Cucut and Gulai pakis,,,
those are Melayu traditional food from North Sumatera..

And my favourite breakfast, bubur ayam (before I managed to learn the work for bunging the sambal in a little plastic bag)

rendang, ikan asin balado, sayur asem, ikan teri balado, sayur kangkung, asam padeh..I can go on and on , too many to mention here,am very proud to be indonesian.

My beautiful wife cooks a fantastic rendang.
It's worth being in Indonesia just for that.

Speaking of family cooking, my mother in law (dadong) makes a Balinese bumbu that we market in two manners from her famed warung.  One is of course as bumbu, the other manner is as paint remover.

We had a warung in Wonosobo.
You would not believe how popular chip butties are in Java.
Perhaps we should move to a ruko and open another chip buttie shop.

They'd probably go well with my mother in law's bumbu!  You could call them "chips from hell."

Devilled chips. Sounds good.
I wonder if, "Heaven and hell" would work.
Half sweet, half murderously hot in a 'call the fire brigade' sort of way.

And...just to put an even larger than usual smile over my exceptionally handsome face, I've just found a branch of SS (special sambal) in Serpong.
One of the best restaurant chains in Indonesia is now close enough to get to easily.

I have been struggling to appreciate the taste and smell of most traditional Indonesian food since I came here in Jakarta but now with the influence of my local friends and colleagues, I'm putting my hands down for ayam kremes and ayam bakar with sambal and fried tofu. Sate ayam also tastes good with creamy peanut sauce. :-)

Some Indonesian foods are just not appealing to me simply because of their names, like the bakso, I know it tastes good but until now I wonder why they call it bakso....and it sounds like the Filipino word for drinking glass "baso"

Another one is the soto...Soto is a family name in my home country, lol...so it kinda weird for me.

Soto is very nice but I won't eat bakso.
I've seen the meatballs being made and we are talking brain, intestines and so on.

Nooo ! Bakso is  not like sausages. I know how they make sausages. But bakso, you can even make it by yourself - healthy house made. Besides, healthy house made sausages ??? Never heard, never happened !

Sadly no worse than England with its horsemeat beef burgers, mystery meat curry and 'its cod Jim but not as we know it cod' for fish and chips.

Remember you never see cats and dogs around Indian takeaways so the old joke goes...

Ssshhhh....Indians are vegetarians. It's hard to find beef curry there.
