Moving to Taichung

Post new topic

Jimmy James

Hello . .

My wife & I have the opportunity to move to Taiwan (Taichung) in about 2/3 months and I was wondering if anyone can help me or has had experience in moving pets overseas including quarantine times and rental properties (houses if possible) couldnÂ’t find much on the internet :(

And if itÂ’s not too much to ask jobs in the Hotel-Hospitability industry.

Thanks in advance. .

James

Hi and welcome on ½ûÂþÌìÌà James! :)

I hope other members will provide you information on formalities regarding your pet!

Maybe you could tell more about what kind of job you are looking for and what are your experiences.

Thanks Armand,

I've been working in the hospitality industry for the past 11-12 years managing a number of bars & hotels across Brisbane, Sydney & Fiji. I would like to know how the drinking laws differ to Australia and what if any qualification I might need prior to coming.

Thanks again Armand

Hi there,

Here's the link for information regarding importation of dogs & cats into Taiwan:

As far as housing and things & places around Taichung, perhaps I could give you some heads-up. Simply send me a message and we'll go from there...

Good luck,

Hey el dorado,

That's was exactly what I was after, I also did some more research from my end and there are a couple of companies that specialise in pet travel - dogtainers & Pet jet Looks like it's going to cost about $2222AU one-way !! So expensive!

In regards to houses in Taichung, are there any? and what is the cost per week/month?

I have also been given a list of hotels & bars is the language barrier going to be a problem or should I be looking elsewhere

Thanks again for your help

Jimmy,

You should have no problems renting a house in Taichung. A typical 2 or 3-bedroom condominium would cost you around NT$15,000 to NT$20,000 per month in a fairly nice and convenient location.

As far as the employment in the hospitality industry, I have noticed that thereÂ’s a few pubs in town run by foreigners and those are where most expat. hang out. You might check them out upon arrival. ThereÂ’re also many 5-star hotels that are frequented by foreign visitors. However, you should have a proper working permit should you wish to obtain employment here.

Cheers,

Hey El Dorado,

Thanks for your help, I was wondering how do we go about renting these properties? are they rented through real estate agents or private owners? how do I organise/get in contact with these people so we can view a number of properties once we land in Taichung?

Thanks again
Jimmy

Jimmy,

You can do both. Either rent it through real estate agent or seek "for rent by owner". If you go through the agent, he/she typically charges one month rent as a commission, which will be split between landlord and tenant.

You can also look up this website: 591.com.tw for listing from private owners, unfortunately it is in Chinese...

Nonetheless, you might consider looking for a weekly rent first to acclimate the surroundings before committing to a long-term lease.

I have some friends who brought animals from America and the process of getting all the vaccines and whatnot was quite lengthy.  Their pets had to stay in quarantine for a while once they got here too.

Hi Jimmy,

I'm in a similar position to you... I'm heading over to Taiwan in the next few months.

Good luck with it all; and if you find out any good places to rent accomodation, please get in touch as I am quite worried about that myself.

Best,
Simon
